Heart baked into homemade flatbread from organic starter during Starter Workshop at La Victoria Bakery  - Sour Flour, San Francisco (Taken with instagram)

Really fun afternoon learning how to make sourdough bread from a starter (flour & water!)  Delicious results plus a take-home starter for additional experimentation!

Did you know sourdough bread not only comes from SF, but is so good here because of the climate?  The bacteria in the starter that gives it the “sour” flavor thrives here in NorCal.  Just another reason this is a great city :)

Homemade snickerdoodle heaven

Thanks to Smitten Kitchen for a great adaptation of Martha Stewart’s recipe!  Great texture and unbelievable cinnamon flavor.  Perfect holiday treat!

Black Sticky Gingerbread (Taken with instagram)

Again, picture does not do this dessert justice.  Straight from the oven, the crust balanced the gooey/cakey texture and rich ginger flavor.  Phenomenal!  Found the recipe on 101Cookbooks, which credits the author/source as Regan Daley - In the Sweet Kitchen.

Definitely a new holiday stand-by.

Not pictured, but also delicious was a pumpkin pudding.  I substituted Stevia for the sugar and was amazed by the results.  Simple, easy, (relatively) healthy, and really good. Think I will make it again for Christmas!

Homemade spiced nuts (Taken with instagram)

With 4 lbs of raw almonds that needed to be used, we set out to make some almondliciousness happen.  The almond butter attempt via blender is in progress; the above is a version of spiced nuts — fresh roasted, tossed in a little butter, cinnamon, ginger, dash of chili powder, and agave nectar, then re-roasted.  Tasty!
